Title: Environmental Health and Safety Engineer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: General Manager

Pay: $85,000-$140,000/year.

We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Environmental Health and Safety Engineer to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 675 Los Esteros Road, San Jose CA and limited job-related travel may be required.

Position Summary:

GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer to provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main function will revolve around making sure employees and facilities follow Environmental Health and Safety Regulations as well as providing training for employees on procedures and best practices. Must have interpersonal skills to communicate with manager and staff employees.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and enforce environmental health and safety policies to continue a strong culture of health and safety.
  • Conduct trainings to stay in compliance and help with accident prevention for one or more GreenWaste facilities.
  • Implement policies that eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Oversee Environmental Compliance for one or more facilities.
  • Conduct post-accident investigations.
  • Perform inspections of facilities to ensure safety regulations and safe maintenance practices are being followed and are up to date.
  • Work with maintenance team to develop Standard Operating Procedures for maintenance activities.
  • Assist in facility troubleshooting as needed to ensure employee safety.
  • Manage inventory of Safety Supplies.
  • Stay up to date with employee work status reports.
  • Assist with onsite projects as the safety lead and observe work to ensure safety procedures are practiced.
  • Track accident investigations, meetings, inspections via online database. Example – Microsoft SharePoint / One Note or similar platform.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1 year work experience in the industrial or waste management sectors is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Must maintain a California driver's license and an acceptable DMV record.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Language Skill:

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold weather.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift 75 lbs.
  • Frequent bending and twisting.
  • Constant climbing ladders, in and out of equipment.

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday work. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment and start/end time based on the operational needs.
