Summary DLA Piper is seeking a mid-level associate to join its Environmental Litigation practice group. This position is open to California-admitted lawyers open to working in one of our California offices – Palo Alto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego. Education JD Bar Admission Admitted to practice in California. Experience Minimum 3 years of experience. Prior law firm or agency experience. Job Competencies & Desired Skills Background in environmental law, with level-appropriate experience in key environmental statutes and regulations is required, including CERCLA, RCRA, and analogous California laws and common law. Concentrated experience in environmental litigation, defense of enforcement actions, and regulatory compliance. Experience and familiarity with California state environmental agencies is required, and experience with federal agencies is preferred. Significant experience advising clients on business decisions relating to emerging environmental issues, regulatory requirements, and liability exposure, and public relations matters. Experience negotiating agreements on compliance, cost recovery, and permitting or regulatory compliance matters. Candidates should have comfort with the technical aspects of environmental operations and remediation, and experience working with environmental consultants. Experience with sediment-based contamination and remediation is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have experience representing clients in heavy industries, defense industries, chemical manufacturing, and/or maritime industries. Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Work Environment Hybrid with a minimum of three days in-office expectations. Some travel required. Pay Transparency The expected annual pay range for this position, if hired to work in California is $260,000 – $390,000 per year. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications.
