Payroll Specialist I is responsible for delivering exceptional quality service and effective communication with their team and external customers. In this position, responsibilities are to prepare and process accurate and timely multi-state payroll and reconcile payroll tax deductions.
Annual Salary: $22-$25/hr based on interview and experience.
Essential functions - Prepare and process multi-state weekly, bi-weekly, and special full cycle payrolls including hours, vacation time, garnishments, insurance and 401(k) deductions.
- Monitor electronic timekeeping systems and reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
- Review and Approve Employee Portal changes on third-party notification system.
- Collaborate with team to ensure all payroll transactions are entered accurately and correctly.
- Review automated system outputs before and after submitting to third-party vendor.
- Provide prompt responses to employee questions about payroll related matters.
- Prepare and distribute Prevailing Wage reports with supporting documents.
- Prepare payroll related entries for accounting each payroll cycle.
- Partner with HR on all matters involving employee's compensation, benefits, and disability payments, including 401(k) contribution and other payroll funding.
- Working knowledge of Federal and State labor and employment tax legislation and regulations
- Strong understanding of payroll tax wage reporting and compliance with local, state, and federal government agencies
- Distribute, record, and monitor agency tax notices and tracers with 3rd party provider.
- Prepares materials for internal or external auditors as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications - Minimum of three (3) years of payroll processing and employment tax experience
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now and SmartCompliance systems highly preferred.
- Knowledge of blended SCA, DBA, and CBA a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and payroll software programs
- Great attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in a dynamic work environment.
- Must be able to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone, email, and person to person.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new things.
- Maintain a positive working relationship within the team and external customers.
Working Conditions - Primarily in an office environment
- Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
- Occasional remote work is also expected after the training period is completed.
