HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $44,880 - $53,856 annually

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $44,880 - $67,320 annually

Job Summary:

A School Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) working with students with significant disabilities plays a crucial role in providing personalized care, medical support, and academic assistance to ensure the safety, well-being, and development of students with diverse needs. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who can support the physical, emotional, and educational needs of students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Personal Care:

  • Assist students with daily living activities, including dressing, feeding, grooming, and toileting, while promoting their independence to the extent possible.
  • Provide emotional support and a nurturing environment to create a sense of safety and trust.
Medical Care:
  • Administer medication and perform routine medical treatments for students, delegated and trained by the school Registered Nurse in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, symptoms, and other health-related data.
  • Assist with the management of specialized medical equipment, such as ventilators or feeding tubes, as required.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as necessary.
Academic Support:
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and special education professionals to follow the implemented individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student, established by the school team.
  • Support students in their learning activities, including adapting materials and modifying the environment to meet their unique needs.
  • Foster communication skills, mobility, and other developmental goals as defined in the IEP.
  • Assist with technology devices and communication aids used by students.
Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each student's care, including health records, medication logs, and progress in meeting IEP goals.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and healthcare professionals regarding students' health and academic progress.
Safety and Hygiene:
  • Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the classroom environment, including proper sanitation of equipment and materials.
  • Maintain a hygienic and infection-free setting by following infection control protocols.
Behavioral Support:
  • Implement behavior management strategies in collaboration with the school's behavior specialist or counselor.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages social interaction and peer support.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with best practices and training related to working with students with significant disabilities.
  • Attend professional development sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain Scope of Practice with the State Nurse Practice Act.
Qualifications:
  • Must be willing to Obtain State certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Preferred experience working with individuals with disabilities, especially in a school or healthcare setting.
  • Compassion, patience, and a strong commitment to the welfare and development of students with disabilities.
