Job Description:

POSITION OBJECTIVES
This position is responsible for assisting the coordinator in the day-to-day operation of the Victim Advocate Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Those functions actually required to perform this position, the removal of which would fundamentally change the job. These are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. •Assists in providing services twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week.
•Work may involve night work and weekend work while working alone.
•Provides aid in utilizing service agencies for assistance with emergency needs such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation, etc.
•Provides assistance in filing all paperwork for injunctions for protection, victim impact statements and victim compensation forms.
•Provides emotional support during medical, criminal justice procedures and law enforcement matters.
•Provides criminal court orientation, support and advocacy from the initial call through the judicial system until final disposition of the case.
•Provides transportation to court interviews, depositions, pre-trial hearings, trials and sentencing.
•Provides death and injury notifications in cases of domestic violence, homicides, accidents and other types of deaths and injuries.
•Maintains a database of community resources.
•Provides other services not specifically listed as directed by the Coordinator.
•Performs related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.

This position is part of the City's Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary, shall be outlined by the City Manager in the City's Emergency Management Activation and Emergency Declaration. Failure to appear to perform emergency management assignment and to work assigned shifts as scheduled by the City's Emergency Management Director or individuals designated by the City Manager to assign such functions will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Education and Experience
•High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
•Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
o Eligible for state certification as a Victim Services Practitioner
o Must have a valid Florida Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work related documents.
•Ability to respond to various parties in a courteous and professional manner, regardless of the circumstances.
•Ability to effectively present information in written and oral format to individuals and small or large groups.
•Ability to write correspondence, memos, and other documentation in Standard English text.
•Ability to comprehend and apply principles of mathematical concepts related to this position.
•Ability to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions that are in accordance with laws, ordinances, and established principles.
•Ability to follow and interpret instructions furnished in written and oral format.
•Ability to work with extremely confidential correspondence.
•Must be comfortable working with all segments of society, particularly individuals or families facing tragedy and the demands they might place on the advocate.
•Must have an extreme tolerance and ability to view scenes of death, natural and unnatural, and wounded individuals.

•May need to drive from time to time.

Compensation Details:

Hourly Pay: $17.70
