What's this Job All About? As the Victim Witness Advocate Coordinator for the County of Colusa, you'll formulate policies and procedures, make recommendations for implementation, and ensure compliance. You'll work with various agencies and community resources to create a support network for crime victims, providing essential services and maintaining updated service provider listings. Your role includes initiating contact with victims, conducting interviews, developing case plans, and supporting victims through the judicial process and court hearings. Additionally, you'll follow up with victims, assist with documentation and claims, and help recover property and restitution.

Qualifications Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: One (1) year of related experience that would demonstrate possession of the below knowledge and abilities.
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Training: Bachelor of Arts/Science degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
License or Certificate: Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
Possess entry-level & advanced Victim Witness Advocate Training Program certificates.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of: Community and state resources available to aid victims of crime.
Procedures and regulations related to the victim/witness program.
Interviewing techniques; including crisis intervention counseling techniques and principles.
Sociological, psychological and cultural aspects of crime and victims of crime.
Practices and terminology related to the criminal justice system.
Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.
Basic principles and techniques for preparing and controlling budgets.
Ability to: Assist victims or witnesses of crimes with progression through the criminal justice system in a timely and reasonable manner.
Effectively interview and communicate with clients both verbally and in writing in English and Spanish (preferred).
Explain procedures and policies; provide information effectively.
Understand, apply, and explain applicable codes and regulations.
Provide crisis intervention.
Assess the needs of program clients.
Deal successfully with the public, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained.
Coordinate community resources and make appropriate referrals to aid victims.
Recruit, train and supervise volunteers.
Prepare and present effective written or oral reports regarding victims and the victim/witness program.
Elicit pertinent information from crime victims to assist in filing claims and/or providing necessary support services.
Work with minimum supervision.
Maintain accurate case records and accounts.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Supplemental Information The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase.
